Vent: Facing a choice with hidden items in a stack
I was cleaning out a chimney from the 1920s last Tuesday. My camera showed a bundle tucked way up in the smoke shelf, wrapped in cloth. It looked like old papers, maybe deeds or something personal. I thought about just pulling it out and tossing it, since the job was already running long. But then I pictured the family who lived here, and what if this meant something to them? In the end, I set it aside and told the homeowner about it. They got quiet, then said it was probably their grandpa's stuff, thought lost for years. Makes you think about the right call in those tight spots...
