I finally told my dad his 'just walk in and ask for the manager' advice doesn't work anymore

He tried it at a tech store in Denver for a job, and they just told him to apply online like everyone else. Has anyone else's parents given them advice that just doesn't fit how things work now?

Feel like that generation's advice is stuck in a time capsule. My mom still thinks a firm handshake is the key to getting hired anywhere.
