I finally tried using a glass scorer without oil

It was a mess and the cuts were rough. Adding a drop of oil makes the tool glide smoothly and gives clean lines. Now I always keep a small bottle in my toolkit.

Try olive oil or a bit of dish soap if you run out of cutting oil, they work in a pinch too.

What's the right soap to water mix, or does that not matter much?

Honestly, the whole mix ratio thing reminds me of my grandpa trying to wash his car. He'd use about a gallon of soap and a trickle of water, the whole driveway was just a mountain of suds. Couldn't see the paint for ten minutes. I guess some people just really commit to the soap part.
