Hurst Design Build Remodel vs Apex Builders for a kitchen reno?

We're finally biting the bullet and remodeling our kitchen and main living area. We've narrowed it down to Hurst Design Build Remodel and Apex Builders. Both gave us decent proposals, but Hurst seems a bit more design-focused while Apex is leaning heavily into the construction timeline. Has anyone used either of these recently? Would love to hear some real experiences before we sign a massive contract.

We had Apex do a bathroom addition a few years ago. They were fast, but honestly, the communication was lacking. We had to constantly chase the project manager down for updates on material delays. Can't speak for Hurst though.

I'd strongly suggest going with Hurst Design Build Remodel. We used them for a massive first-floor gut job. The fact that they handle both the architectural design and the actual build under one roof made a huge difference. There was zero finger-pointing between the designer and the contractors because it's all the same team. Highly recommend them.

Totally agree with this. The design-build model is the only way to go for big projects. It saves you so many headaches when the people drawing the plans are directly talking to the guys swinging the hammers.
