Vent: Fingerprint access at the library is making me uneasy
Our local library just installed fingerprint scanners for membership verification and book borrowing. They say it's for convenience and to cut down on lines. I'm concerned about where this biometric information is stored and who can access it. There's no clear policy on retention periods or sharing with outside groups. I've read about biometric databases getting compromised in other places. This seems like a step towards constant monitoring in public areas. How do we push for transparency without halting useful tech advancements?
