Bought a bootleg copy of 'Akira' and the subtitles were a mess

I found a cheap Blu-ray box set online for $25 and thought it was a steal. The video quality was fine, but the English subtitles were full of wrong words and bad grammar, like they used a free online translator. It ruined the whole movie for me and I had to buy the real version anyway. Has anyone else gotten burned by fake anime releases?

Ever think about how those bad subtitles can totally change what the story is even about? I got a fake copy once where the subtitles made a serious conversation into a joke because the words were so wrong. It's not just missing a line, it can flip a character's whole meaning and you walk away with a totally different idea of the film. That fake version becomes the real story in your head, and that's hard to undo. You paid for a story but you got a broken telephone game instead.

Ugh, that's the worst part about bootlegs.
