I chose to replace a full compressor on a 10-year-old fridge instead of selling them a new unit

The customer in Tacoma had a high-end Sub-Zero that would have cost them over $4,000 to replace, but the repair with a new Copeland compressor and labor came to $1,200. They were thrilled to keep their kitchen matching set, and the unit has been running fine for eight months now. When do you all decide a major repair is actually the better call for the customer?

Honestly that's the best feeling, when you save someone from a huge bill and their stuff still works perfectly. I've seen people get talked into full replacements for stuff that just needed one solid repair. Like that compressor job, if the rest of the fridge is in good shape, why trash it? Makes way more sense for the customer's wallet and it's less waste going to the landfill. Good on you for giving them the real choice.

Tell that to my bank account, I'm basically a charity with a toolbox.

It's like fixing a good pair of shoes instead of buying new ones every time.
