Found 47 pottery shards in one square meter at a dig site
I was working a volunteer dig near Tucson last fall, just scraping away layers in my assigned grid. After about two hours, my tally hit 47 pieces of broken pottery in that single square. It was way more than the other grids, which were averaging maybe 15. The lead archaeologist said it likely marked a trash pit or a breakage spot from hundreds of years ago. Has anyone else hit a crazy high concentration like that in a small area?

Bagged each shard separately and flagged the square for the team lead.

That kind of density makes you wonder about the person who dropped it. A whole pot was a big deal back then. Finding that many pieces in one spot feels less like trash and more like someone had a really bad day. Maybe they knocked over a storage jar full of something important. The frustration must have been the same then as now.
