My friend in Tucson thinks we should stop digging up Native American sites

We were talking about a new dig near the Gila River, and she said 'maybe some stories are meant to stay buried.' It made me rethink if our curiosity always justifies the disturbance, even with good intentions. Has anyone else had a conversation that made them question a basic part of the field?

Remember that most modern archaeology works directly with descendant communities now. The field has moved past just digging for curiosity's sake.

That's actually kind of wild to hear. Always pictured it as just digging stuff up for museums. Guess the shows I watched were way behind.
