That time I forgot to clean my paint gun and ruined a clear coat job

I was spraying a 2018 Ford Focus in my booth last Tuesday and halfway through the clear coat started fisheye-ing like crazy. Turns out I left old reducer residue in the cup from a job three days ago. Has anyone else had a similar disaster from skipping a deep clean on their spray equipment?

Oh man, people really act like this is the end of the world. It's a paint job, not brain surgery. You messed up, you learned, you move on. Sure it's annoying when your clear coat looks like a golf ball but it's not like you ruined a priceless antique. I've forgotten to clean stuff way worse than this and the car still drives fine. Sometimes I think we overthink this stuff to feel like professionals when half the time a dirty rag and some new paint fixes everything.

Did you try using a paint strainer to catch any leftover junk before spraying?

Has a paint strainer ever actually saved you from the real clogs though? I've tried them a few times and they just get blocked up with the smallest bits of dried crud, then you're stuck cleaning the filter instead of spraying. Seems like you end up creating more mess trying to pour through the thing without spilling it everywhere. I just stick to mixing it real good and pouring through a clean rag if I'm worried about chunks, works better for me than those fancy filters.
