Tried skipping primer on a quarter panel patch and it peeled within a week

I was working on a 2010 Honda Accord last Saturday and figured I'd save some time by skipping the etching primer on a small quarter panel patch. Told myself it was just a test panel and nobody would see the backside anyway. Seven days later, the paint started lifting at the edges and now I have to strip it all back down to bare metal. Learned my lesson - primer is there for a reason, and cutting corners just doubles your labor. Anyone else ever get burned trying to speed up a repair?

My buddy Dave tried this on his old F150. He figured since it was just a rocker panel replacement he could hustle through it without etching primer. A month later he pulled into my driveway and the whole patch looked like it was shedding skin. He had to grind it all off and redo it on a Sunday afternoon with his kid's birthday party starting in like 3 hours. That memory stuck with me.

Ngl this is one of those things where skipping a step to save 10 minutes costs you three hours later. It's just like rushing through washing your car before a wax and then watching the wax fail to bond.

Yeah I guess but that story about Dave and the F150 sounds like the guy just didn't know what he was doing... it's not always that dramatic for everyone else.
