Found a weird trick using old blog comments that got me 15 backlinks in a month

I run a small home repair site and was stuck with like 30 DA. Then I started scrolling through old blog posts in my niche that hadn't been updated in years. I'd leave a thoughtful comment pointing out something missing or outdated, then link to my own relevant guide. Half the time the blogger would update their post and keep my link. Did this for maybe 20 sites and got 15 live links out of it. Anyone else tried this or got a better method?

Ha, that's clever. I tried something similar once but I left a comment that was so thoughtful the blogger hired me to rewrite their whole post. Ended up with one link and a lot of unpaid work. Classic me. Smart way to find sites stuck in 2018 though. I bet most of those old blogs are just collecting dust with broken links everywhere. I could never pull this off though. My comments always come off like I'm trying to sell something. Probably because I am.

Bet on the old blogs collecting dust. I stumbled onto one last month that still had a contact form from like 2007 and the last post was about flip phones. Feels weirdly sad typing into that void but hey, the backlinks are still live and that's all that matters for ranking. Your point about coming off salesy hits home though. I tone it down by pretending I'm just a dude with a genuine question, not someone fishing for a link. Works maybe half the time. The other half I just get ignored or called out.
