Lost sleep for a week over a new neighbor's dog barking all night

So this new guy moved in two doors down on Maple Street about a month ago, and his husky starts howling at like 2 AM every single night. I work the lunch shift so I gotta be up by 5, and after three days of zero sleep I finally snapped and walked over there at 3 AM. Told him straight up his dog was keeping the whole block awake, and he got all defensive, but the next night it was quiet. Has anyone else had to do the midnight confrontation thing and did it actually stick?

Got a buddy who lives down in the apartment complex on Oak Street, had the same problem with a new neighbor's Labrador barking at all hours. He tried the polite note thing first, left it taped to the guy's door, 'cause he didn't want to cause a scene. Nothing changed for three more nights, so he finally walked over at midnight, knocked hard, and just said "Hey man, your dog's been barking for an hour, I got a kid who can't sleep." The neighbor looked embarrassed, said sorry, and the next day he bought one of those citronella anti-bark collars for the dog. Worked like a charm for a few weeks, then the dog figured out the collar and started barking again, just quieter. My buddy had to go over a second time, and that's when the neighbor finally admitted he was gaming late at night and the dog would start howling when he ignored it. They worked out a deal where the neighbor takes the dog for a long walk right before bed, and it's been quiet ever since, so the midnight talk can stick if the guy actually cares.

Yeah "the dog figured out the collar" classic husky move.
