So I ran out of buttermilk for my scones at 9 PM last night and used a cup of plain yogurt mixed with a tablespoon of white vinegar as a panic substitute. It actually worked BETTER.

Wait, you had plain yogurt just sitting around at 9 PM? That's the real miracle here. Mine always goes bad two days after I buy it. The vinegar trick is smart though, I'll have to remember that for next time I'm in a bind. Honestly sounds like it would work better, more tang. My scones are always a little dense, maybe this is the secret.

Right? The tang makes all the difference. I did the same thing with sour cream and lemon juice for biscuits once and they were the best I ever made.
