Vent: I still use a 3rd hand tool for housing installs, even after a shop in Boulder told me it was 'old school' last month.
They said modern housing is pre-stretched and you just need to pull it tight. But last week, I had a customer's brake line pop out on a steep descent because I tried their method. I'm going back to my old Park Tool TH-1. Anyone else find the 'new way' less reliable?

Maybe that shop, and @shane_mason62, are just getting lucky with their shortcuts.

That "pre-stretched and just pull it tight" advice sounds risky... what kind of housing were you using when the brake line popped out? I've heard some brands are way more forgiving than others with that method. Makes me wonder if that shop is just skipping a crucial step to save time in their own workflow.

Yeah, it was standard Shimano housing. The shop definitely cut corners by not using a proper cable end cap.
