Our book club spent a whole month arguing about the ending of 'The Road'

We planned one meeting to talk about it, but people kept bringing up new points about hope and survival, so we had to meet three more times. It took us four weeks total to finally agree to disagree and move on. Has your group ever gotten stuck on a book's meaning for way longer than planned?

Totally get that. My group got stuck on "Blood Meridian" for like six weeks. We kept going in circles about whether the kid was a victim or just as bad as the rest. Someone would bring up a new scene, like the tree of dead babies, and we'd have to meet again. It got so deep we were looking up old interviews with McCarthy. We finally just had to drop it and pick a comedy for the next month.

The tree of dead babies is actually from the end of the book, not a random early scene. Pretty sure the kid was just a spectator by the time they stumble onto that, right? Kind of changes the debate a bit if you ask me.

Honestly that sounds like a waste of time, I mean just pick a new book.
