Appreciation post: Saw a guy at the Louisville woodworking show using a Japanese pull saw for dovetails. Changed my whole approach.

I mean, it's just a different kind of saw. People get so hyped about tools but at the end of the day it's still just cutting wood.

See this everywhere. People focus on the gear, not the skill. Obsess over the brand of knife instead of learning to cook. Buy the fanciest running shoes but never go for a run. The tool is just a thing. What you do with it is what matters.

My buddy bought a crazy expensive chisel set after a show. Never sharpened them once. Just sits in the box. Totally what ryanh56 said about the gear. He thought the tool itself would make the joints for him. Still can't cut a straight line.
