Found out the average person changes careers 5-7 times and it made me relax a bit

I was stressing hard about whether to leave my current job for something completely different. My buddy sent me a link from the Bureau of Labor Statistics that said the average person switches careers like 5 to 7 times in their lifetime. I figured it was maybe 2 or 3 tops. That stat came from a 2023 survey they did on job tenure and mobility. It honestly took a weight off my shoulders knowing most people dont just pick one lane and stay there forever. Has anyone else used that stat to justify a big jump to something new?

Totally get that feeling, it's a huge relief isn't it. That stat is the only reason I finally quit my old gig and went out on my own.

The weird thing is I actually kind of miss the structure sometimes. Like last week I woke up at 10am and ate cold pizza for breakfast while answering emails and I thought wow this is great, then by 3pm I was staring at the ceiling wondering what day it was. You trade one kind of trap for another, just different walls. My friend who became a freelance graphic designer said the same thing, he now schedules fake meetings with himself just to have some kind of routine.

Is the relief maybe a little bit dangerous though? I mean, once you see how possible it is to just go out on your own, it's really hard to ever go back to a normal 9 to 5 again. That stat kind of locked me into my own business forever, and some days I wish I could just clock out and not think about work. How do you deal with that feeling of being stuck being your own boss?
