Heard a young installer say carpet is dead

Was at the supply house in Denver yesterday picking up some tack strip and overheard a kid talking to his buddy about how carpet is a dying trade. Said he only does LVP now. Made me think about how 15 years ago I was doing 8 to 10 carpet jobs a week easy. Now I'm lucky if I get 2. Any of you old timers seeing the same shift in your area?

And totally agree with you, I see the same thing. I'm up in Fort Collins and I swear last month I only did carpet in one bedroom and like two basements. The rest was all LVP and laminate. But I still maintain carpet isn't dead, it's just moved into the rooms where people actually want soft floors. That kid probably just hasn't been doing this long enough to see the ebb and flow yet.

Did you catch that article from Floor Trends magazine a few months back about how carpet still holds 40% of the flooring market? Seems like some of these young guys are just chasing what's trendy right now instead of looking at the actual numbers. Carpet might not be as hot as it was in the 90s but I still see plenty of it going in basements and bedrooms around here.
