Tbh, this guy at a pop-up in Austin told me my pour-over method was 'aggressively wrong' and I can't stop thinking about it

My cousin in Portland swears by this one weird trick where he boils water in a regular pot and just dumps it straight onto the grounds in a paper towel-lined colander. Calls it cowboy coffee 2.0. The first time I saw it I almost called the police, but honestly? It made a decent cup. Makes you wonder if half the rules are just for show.

My old roommate tried that paper towel method for a week. The problem is you can't control the water temperature at all. Boiling water scorches good beans and makes the coffee taste bitter. A cheap pour-over cone costs like eight bucks and actually gets the water hot enough without burning everything. The rules are mostly about not wrecking the flavor you paid for.

Why do I own three coffee gadgets then?
