That $30 thermal paste I laughed at actually dropped my CPU temps by 8 degrees
Guy at Micro Center swore by some obscure ceramic paste. I thought it was a gimmick but my idle temps went from 42 to 34 after a quick swap. Anyone else try something off the shelf that surprised you?

Bought a $25 tube of that Honeywell PTM7950 pad stuff for my laptop. Dropped 6 degrees on the CPU and another 4 on the GPU under load. Felt silly paying that much for what looks like a sticker but now I get it.

Guy at Micro Center swore by some obscure ceramic paste" - honestly, how do you know it's not just placebo or a fluke? Idle temps aren't really that serious to begin with. 42 to 34 is nice but like, unless you're hitting thermal throttling under load, who cares? People spend way too much time chasing those last few degrees for no real reason. Your PC isn't gonna explode at 42 degrees idle. I get that it's satisfying to see lower numbers, but let's be real, unless your fans are quieter or your performance actually improved, does it matter? Probably not.

Man @patricialee you're really missing the point here. Nobody's saying their PC is gonna blow up at 42 degrees. The real question is if dropping that 8 degrees under load is what matters. Did you check load temps or just idle? Because if that paste keeps things cooler when you're actually gaming or rendering, that's a legit performance gain. I've seen people spend twice that on RGB fans that do absolutely nothing for temps. So yeah, it's probably not placebo if you got a consistent 8 degree drop across multiple tests. But you gotta tell us what the load temps looked like, man. Otherwise it's just a flex with no data.
