Had to choose between a power trowel and a walk-behind for a 3,000 sq ft garage floor in Phoenix. Went with the walk-behind and it was a brutal 12-hour day. What would you have picked?

Rent both" is the kind of advice you get from someone who wasn't there sweating buckets. My back is screaming just thinking about hauling a second machine. You finish that walk behind pass and the concrete is already setting up like quick dry cement in that Phoenix oven. By the time you wrestled the power trowel off the truck, you'd be troweling dust.

Honestly, why not rent both? For that size in Phoenix heat, a power trowel for the main finish would have saved you hours of backbreaking work. The walk behind is great for the first rough pass, but finishing by hand is where you lose a whole day. I would have done a quick pass with the walk behind, then switched to the power trowel to get that hard, smooth surface fast before the concrete set.

Yeah the power trowel is key for that final finish in the heat, hand troweling would've been brutal.
