Shoutout to my foreman who told me to "trust the laser, not your gut" on a grade job in Houston
So last week I was setting up a slab pour and my gut was telling me the laser was off by about an inch. Kept double checking it, wasting time. Foreman finally came over and just said that line. Turns out my reference point was slightly tilted. Once I set it right the laser was dead on. Saved me probably an hour of second guessing. Has anyone else had their eyes play tricks on them with grade lasers?

Your reference point was slightly tilted" - that's actually the key right there. Lasers are only as good as their setup, man. I've had the same problem where I was blaming the laser but really I just had the tripod on some loose dirt. Once you get that base solid the laser doesn't lie. A lot of guys forget to check their batteries too. Low battery can make the beam look weak and mess with your reading if you're not careful.

Check if the wall or floor you're mounting on is perfectly plumb first, not just the laser level itself.
