Did you check if the load cell itself was zeroed out before mounting it? Some of those cheaper units have a tiny reset button that's easy to miss.

Check that calibration before you trust it. That's a huge error for a safety tool. Could have ended really badly.

What if the tool just got bumped during shipping? @blakem13, sometimes a big error just means it needs a simple reset. People jump to the worst case right away. I've seen gear work fine for years after a weird first reading. Maybe the user didn't even follow the basic setup steps.
