Hit 10,000 phishing emails blocked in my personal inbox last week
I keep a spreadsheet of all the phishing emails I catch in my personal Gmail account. Last week I hit the 10,000 mark and it honestly surprised me. I started tracking back in 2019 after almost clicking a fake PayPal link that looked super real. Most of them are the usual stuff like fake delivery notices or password reset scams. But about 200 of them were really clever ones that spoofed actual contacts I know. One time someone spoofed my boss's email address and asked for gift cards. It made me realize how much we rely on just looking at the sender name instead of the actual email address. Do you keep track of how many scams hit your inbox?

Yeah that spreadsheet thing is smart, I should start doing that myself.

Start tracking stuff like income date and platform too though, right? I found out real quick that just having a list of expenses wasn't enough to see which gigs were actually worth my time. What categories are you planning to put in the spreadsheet?

Have you ever thought about tracking which companies are worse about letting these phishing emails through in the first place? I started doing that on my own spreadsheet and it really opened my eyes. Google catches most of them automatically now, but a few slip through every month, usually from smaller businesses that got hacked. I also add a note about the time of day they hit my inbox, because I noticed most of the really sneaky ones come in late at night or early morning when people are less alert. That extra info helped me spot patterns and report them to the right places faster.
