A/B tested my own email subject lines for 2 months and the simpler ones won every time

I was writing these clever, pun-filled subject lines for our enterprise SaaS drip campaign, but they barely got opened. Switched to just stating the product benefit plainly like "Reduce churn by 30% in 60 days" and open rates jumped 15% in the first week. Has anyone else seen better results with boring vs. creative subject lines for B2B?

It reminds me how plain packaging on store shelves often outsells the flashy designs.

Those generic store brand cans with the plain white labels fly off the shelves at my local grocery store, while the fancy name brand soups just sit there collecting dust. Your mileage may vary, but it really does seem like simple and cheap wins out most of the time.

Stick with what works and let the fancy packaging fight for attention.
