Overheard a city planner at the library mention the '5-minute walk' idea for Everett

She said if you can't get to a park or store in five minutes on foot, the neighborhood plan has failed. Made me look at my own block totally differently, honestly. What's the furthest you have to walk for something basic?

What about people who just like the quiet?

Is it just me or does that "5 minute walk" thing totally change how you see your own street? Same thing happened to me last week when I realized I have to walk 12 minutes just to get to a coffee shop. It's wild how much that little distance matters for how often you actually go somewhere. @adam_lewis I get the quiet part, but I bet even a quiet person would appreciate a park within walking distance you know? My neighborhood has empty lots that could be something useful but nope, just weeds and broken glass for a 15 minute hike to anything.
