My client's kid asked me why I 'paint wood brown' and it actually made me pause.
I was finishing a maple table in my garage last Tuesday when the homeowner's 7-year-old pointed at my stain can and said, 'But the tree was already that color, right?' and now I'm overthinking every tint I mix.

Kids see the truth we've painted over (it's kind of amazing, really).

Read an article about how kids notice when adults fake being happy. They pick up on the tiny gaps between what we say and how our faces really look. It's like they have a built in lie detector for feelings. Makes you wonder what my nephew actually sees at family dinners.
