Found out my peace lily was actually two plants fighting for the same pot

I used to just water all my houseplants the same way on Sunday mornings, but last month after I finally repotted my peace lily that had been looking sad for 6 months, I found two separate root systems tangled together, and now I check every plant for overcrowding before buying or repotting, has anyone else split a plant they thought was just one?

Happened to me with a snake plant. Thought it was one big healthy guy but turns out it was three plants crammed in there. Had to cut the pot apart with scissors to get them out. Now I'm paranoid about every plant I buy from the store. They're all probably hiding secret roommates.

Oh man, same thing happened to me with a peace lily last spring. I felt like I was performing surgery just to free all those roots from the pot.
