Just found out how much coffee we drank during the pandemic

I was reading an old trade report from the National Coffee Association last night. It said home coffee drinking jumped by over 30% in 2020 compared to the year before. That's a huge number. It made me think about my own kitchen, grinding beans every morning instead of grabbing a cup on the way to work. My local roaster in Portland said they sold more whole beans that year than ever. It felt like a small, good thing we all had while stuck inside. Now I still make a pour-over most days, but that shift really stuck. Did anyone else's coffee habits change for good around that time?

Remember reading that report too. The actual number was a bit lower, around 25% for home brewing. Still a massive jump, but the 30% figure gets rounded up a lot. My own switch to a French press definitely became permanent.

That "small, good thing" line really hits home. I got super into tea for the same reason, turning the kettle on became my new morning commute. It was a quiet ritual that just stuck around.

Wait, 30% more coffee? @andrew_rivera, did tea see a jump like that too?
