Hit 1,000 issues in my collection this weekend and didn't even realize it
I was reorganizing my long boxes on Saturday afternoon because I couldn't find my copy of Brubaker's Catwoman #1. Pulled everything out and decided to count just for fun. Turns out I crossed the 1,000 mark somewhere around issue #462 of some random 90s X-Men tie-in I bought for a dollar. I've been grabbing back issues for about 8 years now, mostly dollar bin stuff and random runs that caught my eye. My wife thinks I'm crazy for stacking them in the spare bedroom closet but hitting that number felt like a weird accomplishment. Has anyone else hit a milestone like that and felt more surprised than proud?

Used to think collecting was just hoarding but hitting that number hits different honestly.

Is it really that different though? Once you hit that number, what do you actually have? A bunch of stuff you probably don't need sitting in boxes or on a shelf. I've seen people brag about having 100+ games or comic books but they've only played or read like 10 of them. The rest is just clutter you're paying to store. You could have saved that money for something useful instead.

@oliver2 gets it though. That feeling when you realize how much you've actually grabbed over the years is WEIRD. I still remember crossing 500 and thinking "how did this even happen?" but 1,000 is a whole different beast. Those dollar bin pulls really do pile up before you know it, especially when you snag random runs just because they look interesting. My wife gives me the SAME look about the closet stacks, but honestly it's nice having something tangible to show for years of digging.

I mean, hitting that number is weirdly real. I didn't even notice when I crossed 500, it just kind of happened. The surprise is the best part, like finding a $20 bill in a jacket you haven't worn in months. Those random dollar bin issues add up faster than you think. Catwoman #1 is a solid grab too, Brubaker's run is slept on.
