Watching a crew pour a patio in my town and they skipped the broom finish step
I saw them just power trowel it smooth and walk away. That's a slip hazard waiting to happen when it rains, especially on a sloped surface like theirs. We always did a light cross-broom pass on exterior flatwork back when I worked for Miller Concrete in '08. Anyone else notice this shortcut becoming more common?

My old foreman used to call that a "lawsuit finish" (for obvious reasons).

What kind of stuff did he see that got that name? I've heard it used for shortcuts that leave sharp edges or trip hazards, stuff you know is gonna get someone hurt eventually.

Yeah, that term brings back some memories. I once did a rush job on some deck stairs where the risers were just a bit too high. Told myself it was fine, but I was sweating every time I drove past that house for a year.
