A simple flue cap replacement in Portland turned into a 4 hour ordeal

Got called out to a house on SE Division for what the owner said was a loose cap. The problem was the old mounting screws were rusted solid into the clay tile, and my impact driver just stripped them. Ended up having to carefully drill them out with a Milwaukee M12 right angle drill, which took forever to avoid cracking the tile. Anyone have a better method for seized fasteners in old chimney crowns?

Question about the right way to make a grilled cheese

For years I just slapped butter on the outside of the bread and cooked it in a pan. Then my friend in Chicago showed me her way: she spreads a thin layer of mayonnaise on the outside instead. I tried it last month and the crust gets way crispier and more even. I'm never going back to plain butter. Has anyone else made this switch, or is there a better trick I'm missing?

TIL a bride in Atlanta asked for all white roses or a mix of local wildflowers for her bouquet.

I picked the wildflowers, using black-eyed susans and queen anne's lace from a farm near me. She cried when she saw it, said it felt more personal. Has anyone else had a client ask for a total swap like that?

PSA: The $2,500 espresso machine I bought last year is a total debate now.

I got a La Marzocco Linea Mini for the shop, thinking the brand name and quality would be a big draw. It makes great coffee, sure, but the cost is huge and I'm not sure it brings in enough extra customers to pay for itself. On the other hand, my old machine was always breaking and costing me in repairs. Has anyone else done the math on a big equipment buy like this and felt burned or saved?

Seeing the new scans of the Sutton Hoo helmet really shows how far we've come

I remember the old museum display from the 90s, which was basically the rusted pieces in a case. Now the 3D laser scans from the British Museum show the full face with all its details, even the tiny animal figures on the eyebrows. It's wild that a single new tech can change how we see a whole artifact. Anyone else have a favorite find that looks totally different now because of better methods?
