I looked up the actual number of people who signed that petition to get a comedian fired

Yeah but "the actual numbers are almost always tiny" feels off. Sometimes a small group can point out a real problem that a lot of people quietly agree with but don't shout about. The media might blow it up, but that doesn't mean the core issue isn't there. It just gets lost in the noise of the loudest voices.

I rewatched the 2016 Point Break remake last night and it made me miss the VHS era

Yeah, "no soul" is exactly right, @the_rose. It was all shiny and had nothing to say.

That old post pounder finally gave up on me yesterday afternoon

Remember my buddy's ancient rototiller that sounded like a bag of hammers? He kept it alive with baling wire and prayers until the engine literally locked up in the middle of his garden. We found metal shavings in the oil pan that looked like glitter. He still talks about that machine like it was a old friend that went out fighting.

Update: I just read that the Hubble Deep Field image took 342 separate exposures

Honestly that sounds like a waste of telescope time. They could have pointed it at something new 341 times instead of staring at empty space. My favorite space pictures are the simple ones, like a clear shot of Saturn's rings, where you can actually see what you're looking at without needing a math degree to understand it. All that effort for a bunch of fuzzy dots just feels like showing off. They probably spent more time on that one picture than I spend cleaning a whole office building.

My neighbor Dave just put up a fence 2 feet onto my property in Seattle

Two feet honestly seems like a small thing to get worked up about. It's just a fence line, not like he built a garage on your land. Maybe Dave measured wrong and it was an honest mistake. Getting lawyers and surveys involved over something that small feels like a huge hassle for everyone. If the fence looks fine and doesn't block anything important, I'd probably just let it go. Picking a fight with a neighbor you have to live next to for years seems worse than losing a couple feet of grass.
